iQmultimedia commits to its continued improvement at the User Experience Australia conference
The 27th and 28th of August 2009 saw the inaugural User Experience Australia conference, UX Australia 2009 in Canberra and (of course) we were there.
Two days of comprehensive information sessions from some of the user experience industry’s most respected members. Our resident UX expert Kit was accompanied to the event by our director, Sam, both of whom made the most of their time by sharing techniques and debates with other members of the burgeoning field.
The programme began with an in-depth keynote presentation by Alex Wright, Director of User Experience and Product Research at The New York Times outlining the legacy historical figures have left for the field of UX design. The approximately 200 conference attendees were then divided between two conference rooms to take in a wide array of informative presentations covering everything from improved methods for the design of effective information architecture (IA) by considering user stories to ways for implementing new development methodologies that focus on the site or system’s users.
In keeping with our commitment to maintaining a high level of expertise in touch-screen information systems, our guys attended sessions on things such as the design and development of effective iPhone applications, the creation of touch-screen in-flight information systems for the new Qantas A380 and some great ways to design systems that incorporate multiple distinct interfaces. We met some competitors and we met some possible collaborators, but the attitude of everyone at the event was one of cooperation and a sense of excitement over the direction of the field, still in its infancy. Undoubtedly, the conference put our guys in contact with those at the bleeding-edge of the field and have some great changes we plan to make to our workflow in-house to best take advantage of what we’ve learned.
iQmultimedia considers itself a strong proponent of user-centric design (UCD) having incorporated a number of techniques in the creation of its recent IQ LINK touch-screen information management software, and our attendance at this conference attests to our devotion towards maintaining our competitive advantage as experts in the field.
